As far as the sporting events are concerned the basic need is to have binoculars which can have wide field of view. For best binoculars football you will need such type of binocular which have low magnification but a corresponding larger view of the field.
That said the general thing to keep in mind is that binoculars with higher magnification have narrower field of view.
The field of view is measured either in linear feet at a distance of 1000 yards or it is measured in the degrees.
Other considerations
If you are buying a pair binoculars for the sporting events then make sure that you tell the person selling that you wear eyeglasses i.e. if you do wear. The reason is that if you wear eyeglasses then the eye relief which you want on the binoculars has to be at least 16mm.
Waterproof and rain proof – Almost all of us have faced the situation when it will suddenly start training in the middle of a match and that will mean that you need the binoculars which are waterproof as well as shock resistant so that you do not have that problem of bins being damaged in these adverse weather conditions.
Magnification
6-8 which means that 8×32 bins would do or the 6×30 bins would work well too.
Other bins like 7×25, 10×50 will work ok too.
Filed of view
420’ at 1000 yards

Last but not the least make sure that you have the best of the best straps for the binoculars. At the footballs stadium with all that jostling among the crowds may cause your binoculars to slip from your hands so it is a must to have a quality strap. A few extra bucks spent now will be well spent as otherwise you will be in serious danger of breaking the binoculars while rushing to get the next beer or a hotdog during the game.
