Bushnell 7x18mm Imageview binoculars are the most economical binoculars in the digital camera binoculars category. These binoculars are very compact and can be easily termed as the pocket binoculars.

Some of the specification for this binocular is the prism design and the design is porro prism. Porro prism design is definitely cost effective to manufacture. For more on the porro prism design you can read my post here on the porro prism binoculars.

Specifications

Objective lens diameter is 18mm

The magnification is 7x

Exit pupil is 2.57 mm

Eye relief is 14.5mm

The field of view is 365 feet at 1000 yards

It needs two AAA batteries

As far as the lens coatings are concerned the lenses have the fully coated specifications. The prisms are made up of BaK-7 glass material.

The resolution of the digital camera binoculars can vary from the VGA resolution to the mega pixel binoculars and for these Bushnell binoculars the resolution is VGA.

It has a 16MB memory to hold the pictures taken in the internal memory.

If you buy these Bushnell Digital Binoculars then you will also get a USB cable, A image editing software as well as the a bag to carry all these toghers includig the binoculars.

Picture quality of this 7x18mm Imageview binoculars is juts about average though at the price at which you can get these is pure value for money. As far as use is concerned it is fairly easy to use and you can get pictures by just one click of a button.

Challenges with these binoculars

The challenge is getting the pictures off into the PC. You need to install a driver to get the PC to recognize the Digital camera binocular. This brand does not have the SD memory card slot and hence it becomes tough to get a lot of photos and you will have to offload these into the PC every now and then. If you are using these while hunting then at one stage you will feel a bit handicapped that you cannot take more pictures with it.

The resolution of the pictures is 640×480 only. This is small resolution as compared to what you can get for a lot of pictures today.

There are some PC requirements that are a must have for you top download the pictures

Microsoft Windows 98/ME/2000/XP

Intel Pentium 166MMX processor or better

32MB RAM or better

USB port

Bushnell digital camera binoculars are one of the most popular in the range of the digital camera binoculars. The other popular digital camera binoculars are the Meade digital camera binoculars, Vivitar digital camera binoculars and the Simmons digital camera binoculars.

Range of Bushnell digital camera with binoculars

Bushnell 10×25 ImageView Digital Binoculars camera – This binocular has a .35 mega pixel camera and has a good binocular specification at 10×25 specifications. This is an affordable compact binocular which have been very reasonable priced. I have a Bushnell 10X25 Imageview Digital camera binocular review here. Please make sure that you have the good understanding of what you are buying before you buy this range.

Bushnell Image Capture 7×18 Pocket Imageview Binoculars

Bushnell Digital Imaging System 22x60mm Digital Spotting Scope, 4″ LCD Screen

Talking about the video clips Bushnell also has a this instant replay binoculars and in that range they have the Bushnell Instant Replay 10×25 LCD Digital binoculars cameras. These binoculars are the best for taking the video clips and the quality of the images is very good. In fact the instant replay cameras have very good fully multicoated lenses which will help make sure that you get the best of the best of the digital cameras as well as the binoculars.

The reviews for all the below binoculars with built in digital cameras from Bushnell are here if you follow the link:

Bushnell Imageview 8x30mm 3.2 MP Digital Imaging binoculars

Bushnell 5MP Sync focus Digital Cameras binoculars with Instant replay

Bushnell Imageview 8×30 mm 2.1MP Digital Imaging binoculars

Affordability

If you are looking for the affordability aspect for the digital camera binoculars then the Digital camera binoculars from Bushnell are definitely the best and they have the two binoculars which are the 10×25 ImageView and the other one is the 7×18 pocket Imageview. Apart from the fact that the magnification of binoculars in this range is wonderful at 10x. These two are very much binocular under 100 dollars.

Picture Quality

The picture quality for these is not very good as they use the VGA resolution which means that it is less than 1MP. More so the VGA resolution will help only if you are emailing the pictures and not otherwise.

The problems with the low end Bushnell digital cameras is that the picture quality is not good as well as there is not an easy way to transfer the picture to the PC. It is a messy and cumbersome process. More on that later in the Imageview binocular reviews.

Memory card and memory

For most of the Budget Bushnell digital camera binoculars there is no slot for SD card. So that means that you will have to rely on the internal memory. In a lot of cases the internal memory will not exceed 8MB or 16MB.

If the money is not a constraint then go for the digital cameras with resolution which is above the 1Mega Pixel.

Digital camera binoculars as the name suggests are those binoculars that have the ability to get you that magnified image as well as then you can get a photograph of that object that you are viewing in your built in digital camera.

In fact the experts have a varied opinion when it comes to the quality of the photos taken by the binoculars with a built in digital camera. The best thing to do is to buy a separate pair of binoculars and a separate high zoom digital camera.

Important Specifications for digital camera binoculars

Tripod Socket – To remove that shake which can disturb a digital photo.

Slot for SD card – To get more picture and videos you can use this slot to get additional memory. Another type of memory cards are the MMC cards. You will need to have the memory card adapters to read these.

Built in video with or without instant replay feature – This is a must as it will help you get some amount of video footage

Number of still photos that can be taken at a time

LCD display – This is a good feature to have so that you can easily see what kind of picture you have shot.

Digital zoom and The optical Zoom.

When you are using the binoculars with digital cameras built in it is always going to be tough to have that perfect digital zoom of the camera and the optical zoom of the binos. If you are using the digital camera with binoculars primarily for taking pictures then I would suggest you to rethink and buy a good digital zoom camera. You can get some good high zoom cameras which will easily beat the built in digital camera of the binoculars.

A point to note here is that most of the cameras that are out there in the market have really low resolution. There are two types of resolution and that is the VGA. VGA resolution is less than 1 mega pixels.

Another major point to understand is that most of the digital cameras have a different focus than a binocular focus. That will mean that when you see the object via the binocular it will appear very bright and sharp but when the picture comes out it may not be as sharp as you thought it will be because of the fact that the digital cameras have a different focus than the binocular focus. It is better to have binos which will allow close focus (usually 11 feet)

Make sure that you check the specifications as a lot of camera binoculars have the optical resolution as well as the interpolated resolution listed. Always check the optical resolution for the camera. That is the correct way as opposed to the interpolated one. A lot of budget camera binoculars have a very very low resolution and also they have BAk-7 glass which is definitely not good for the purpose of viewing. A lot of them do not have a tripod stand (which will mean that you just cannot avoid a shake while taking the pics) and also these low end budget camera binoculars do not have a memory card slot. (That will mean that you cannot take more photographs or add additional capacity).

Always get the BaK-4 glass and binoculars with fully multicoated lens

Magnification of the binoculars with digital camera

Magnification of the camera binoculars is very important as that will mean that anything above 8 will be heavier and hence will not produce good pictures because of the shake. Use of tripods is a must.

Another thing that you can think of looking at is the digital spotting scopes. These have more magnification than the binoculars but have less magnification than the telescopes.

More on this topic later.

Tips

Always make sure that you save your photographs on the SD memory card or the MMC card. If you do not have one then download all the photographs onto your computer to save them in case of a battery change of the camera.

Alkaline AAA batteries or the Lithium AAA batteries can be used.

Use a good photo editing software on the PC.

Top Brands for digital camera binoculars

As far the best brands for digital camera binoculars are concerned the Bushnell products are definitely the best

Bushnell Compact 8×30 Instant Replay

Bushnell 10×25 ImageView Digital Binoculars Camera

Bushnell ImageView 8x30mm 3.2MP Digital Imaging Binoculars
